8/10/2008- EELS LEADER CREATES PLAY WITH PULITZER PRIZE WINNING PLAYWRIGHT JAMES LAPINE:
EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett has created a play with Obie, Tony, and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright James Lapine. MRS. MILLER DOES HER THING, written and directed by Lapine, whose collaborations include the Lapine/Stephen Sondheim productions SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, INTO THE STARS, and PASSION, was co-created by Everett and Lapine and based loosely on real-life singer Elva Miller, played by Debra Monk. 6/23/2008- ANTHONY:
EELS leader E met with 15 year old Anthony Fusaro backstage before the April 14th San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts EELS concert. During their meeting, Anthony, a bright and funny EELS fan who was stricken with both spine and brain cancer, presented E with a stuffed moose dog toy for E's dog, Bobby, Jr., before watching the EELS show.

A little more than a month later the EELS were greatly saddened upon hearing the news that Anthony passed away, May 20th. E and Bobby, Jr., filmed a special performance of Anthony's favorite song, "Railroad Man" for the memorial service yesterday, which you can watch HERE. 5/7/2008- EELS' DOG COMES CRAWLING BACK, TAIL BETWEEN LEGS:
Bobby, Jr., the EELS' talented singing dog was last seen cozying up to Leonard Cohen as his master, EELS leader E, left on yet another world tour without him. After announcing his departure from the EELS camp to work with Mr. Cohen full time, it seems that Mr. Cohen is now also going on tour - without Bobby, Jr. Young Robert Everett, Jr. has taken a long, introspective look at his career and decided to return to his original master, Mr. E. Says E: "I knew Bobby was just trying to make a point by leaving me. I have to say, if he's gonna leave me, he sure picked a great guy to leave me for. But I'm very happy he's back." 5/3/2008- SURPRISE E APPEARANCE AT LAST OLD LARGO SHOW:
E, Fiona Apple, Flight of the Conchords and others helped Jon Brion shut down the old Largo nightclub in Los Angeles last night. E sang and also manned the drums for several songs, including "New York Mining Disaster 1941," "Rapper's Delight" and Buddy Holly's "Everyday." EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett aka E is scheduled to attend The World Science Festival in New York City May 29th for the official American premiere of the "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives" BBC documentary about Everett's father, quantum physicist Hugh Everett III. 4/10/2008- E SHOT OUT OF CANNON:
Another odd 2008 EELS world tour offstage sighting: Last seen riding a tandem bicycle along the New Jersey shoreline, as the tour moves west, E was seen Tuesday being shot out of a cannon at Fort Cody, Nebraska. See for yourself HERE. E did not suffer any serious injury and was able to perform in Boulder, Colorado last night as scheduled.

4/1/2008- E CONFIRMS "BROCYCLE" RIDE:
E has responded to EELStheband.com's queries about Sunday's alleged E/The Chet tandem bicycle ride along the New Jersey shoreline Sunday. Says E: "Yes, it was us. We were walking around New Jersey and Chet insisted on going to a bar in the middle of the day. He got hammered and I had to do some quick thinking. I noticed a bicycle rental next door and rented a tandem bike so I could be Chet's designated driver and get him back safely. He kept yelling in my ear 'I love you, bro! I love our 'brocycle,' bro!' and stuff like that. It was really embarrassing."

3/30/2008- EELS PLAY D.C., WHITE HOUSE CALLS:
As Billboard reported, EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, sent a letter to President George W. Bush formally inviting the President and First Lady to the March 29th EELS concert in Washington, DC (the Bush campaign used the EELS album DAISIES OF THE GALAXY as an example of inappropriate lyrical content during the 2000 campaign for the presidency, going so far as posting EELS lyrics on the official George Bush For President website. In his letter to the President, E writes "Let's forgive and forget. It's the only way to change the world." Read the letter in it's entirety HERE).

Last night EELS performed a stunning show in Washington, DC - with no Presidents or First Ladies in attendance. E revealed to the audience that he received a telephone message directly from The White House, in care of Mr. Dan Gill at EELS' record label, Vagrant Records:

"Good Morning, Mr. Gill, This is the White House Presidential scheduling office. We just received your invitation to attend the concert on March 29th and we very much appreciate your invitation. But, unfortunately, due to the short notice, the President and First Lady's schedule has already been planned and are unable to add it to the calendar. Thank you very much and have a great day."

Says E, "Coming on the heels of the Queen turning me down to attend our recent London show, this stings. I bet Obama would've come. I've got to get back to writing obscene songs for the kids now, thanks."

3/28/2008- EVERETT FAMILY DOCUMENTARY GETS 2nd BAFTA NOMINATION:
The Royal Television Society award winning Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives BBC documentary about EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett and his father, quantum physicist Hugh Everett III, has been nominated for a second British Academy of Film and Television Arts award for best documentary editing, along with the previously announced best documentary nomination.

Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II, was unable to attend the recent EELS performance at London's Royal Festival Hall. EELS leader E reveals to NME that he received a letter from Buckingham Palace informing him that The Queen was unable to attend. "This is the fourth time we've played Royal Festival Hall, and I was determined to see a queen sitting in the royal box this time," says E, "so we got The Queen's lookalike, and everyone on my staff and at the hall was instructed to play along and let me have my fantasy. 2/2/2008- NFL WON'T AIR EELS AD:
EELS had planned to advertise their new CD+DVD USELESS TRINKETS rarities collection during the Super Bowl XLII television broadcast with the world's shortest commercial. As NME reported, Super Bowl advertising time costs approximately $100,000 per second, so the EELS opted to make a 1 second commercial. Unfortunately, as EELS leader E reports, "In the end we were told that the NFL would have to find 29 other advertisers to buy 1 second spots to fill a standard 30 second advertising slot and that they do not sell advertising time by the second. They also noted that a rapid fire 30 second segment of thirty 1 second commercials could cause people with certain medical conditions to have seizures and that it was against network regulations." 1/4/2008- MARK OLIVER EVERETT AT ST. JAMES CHURCH, LONDON:
On January 17th the book THINGS THE GRANDCHILDREN SHOULD KNOW is released in the UK. That evening the author, EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett will make a special appearance performing at St. James Church in London. Each attendee will receive a copy of the book and the first 200 people in line will get wristbands allowing them to have their book signed by the author. See the announcement HERE. 12/22/2007- E & JON BRION CLIMB TO THE MOON CHRISTMAS STYLE:
E performed several songs with Jon Brion at Los Angeles nightclub Largo Friday night, including Climbing To The Moon (check out the Jon Brion Remix on the upcoming MEET THE EELS CD), My Beloved Monster, Railroad Man, Not Ready Yet, Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas, and others before E manned the drums for several more songs including Jealous Guy, Beast of Burden, and Good Times Bad Times. Early reports indicate a grand time was had by all.

"Parallel Universes, Parallel Lives," the documentary film about EELS leader Mark Oliver Everett and his father, Many Worlds Theory author Hugh Everett III, will make it's premiere on BBC 4, November 26th at 9pm.
